Diane Von Furstenberg Studio, L.P: Diane Von Furstenberg (Founder & Creative Designer)
In the fashion industry, one name universally met with recognition and reverence is Diane Von Furstenberg. DVF is considered by most to be the poster-child; a living legend. She practically invented clothing. DVF’s most notable contribution to the fashion world is the iconic wrap dress, which she created in 1974 and was the foundation of her empire. Throughout her 45 years in the industry, DVF gained respect and fame earning a lifetime achievement award from the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) in 2005 and a star on New York City’s Fashion Walk of Fame in 2008. Time named her one of the 100 most powerful people in the world. In addition to being a designer, DVF is also an author, with two best-selling books and a spokesperson. Where does the studio with her namesake go? Unlike other departures, the organization is inextricably tied to her. Also, the fashion industry’s inflection point toward low-cost high design is overwhelming. Studios must adjust to the accelerated pace of change and expanded lines/seasons, once just 4, to a dozen or more today. DVF passes the torch to Paolo Rivera as her successor, however the loss of her creative touch and business acumen leaves the company exposed.
