ESPN: Colin Cowherd (Radio Host)
Why this was a big quit:
Colin Cowherd came to national prominence on ESPN with his daytime radio show “The Herd” that began in 2003. Over the years he accumulated millions of listeners. On the show Cowherd displayed a successful combination of sports talk with political and social opinion. Cowherd will take his talents to competitor Fox Sports and will leave a hole in ESPN Radio’s weekday lineup. His departure comes at a time when other notable personalities such as Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann also left ESPN. The biggest difference here is that ESPN displayed stronger effort to retain Cowherd.
Why this is not as big as the top 10:
Ultimately, ESPN is considered the mothership of all things sports. While they may miss Cowherd, the resulting impact on the organization’s ability to draw readers, listeners, and viewers is negligible.
