Lockheed Martin: Christopher Kubasik (Incoming CEO – Current COO & President) and Robert Stevens (Retiring CEO)

Only weeks away from reaching the pinnacle of his career, becoming the CEO at the world’s largest military contractor, Christopher Kubasik quit. The news emerged just hours after the public was rocked by CIA Director David Petraeus’ resignation. They coincidentally quit for the same reason: extramarital relationship. Kubasik, with Lockheed for over a decade, he served as the CFO from 2001 to 2007 prior to being COO. He was a sharp leader and clear successor after the current CEO, Robert Stevens, retires on the last day of 2012. During Kubasik’s tenure, he helped forge strong relationships with Wall Street, Washington, and winsome brunettes. Kubasik’s departure came at a critical time when the U.S government is reducing military spending as a way to cut the federal budget. While criticism exists in how defense overspends on 20th century tools for modern challenges (bayonet anyone?), Lockheed needs to focus its position. This ill timed distraction may cost the company billions.
